Spina bifida can occur in different forms: spina bifida occulta, meningocele or myelomeningocele. The severity of spina bifida depends on the type, size, location and complications. Life has had its share of challenges however Tom states that his great support system, both friends and family, have helped him through the difficult times.

Staying active in his community is important for Tom. He is involved in many disability organizations such as The Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association, the Center for Disability Rights and the Spina Bifida Youth Adult Alliance.  Beyond his work with non-profit organizations, Tom also enjoys live concerts and can typically be found at the local dirt track for stock car racing every weekend!
